Trimble DA2 and Mobile Manager

Trimble Mobile Manager is required to access the positioning service Catalyst and to configure the Trimble DA2 receiver. It is available for Android and iOS devices.
Get the Mobile Manager app from Trimble on your device.

The DA2 receiver connects to your device through Bluetooth.
- Connect the DA2 receiver to the external power bank.

- Turn on the receiver using the power button under the receiver. When the power button flashes blue light, the receiver is ready to pair with a device.
- On your device, pair the DA2 receiver with the device using Bluetooth. The receiver power button displays solid blue light when it is paired with the device. If needed, you can find the serial number of the receiver printed on the receiver.


- After the physical connection is completed, you will use the Mobile Manager app to configure the receiver.
- Connect the DA2 receiver to the external power bank.
The Trimble Mobile Manager app is used to access the Trimble GNSS positioning service Catalyst and to configure the DA2 receiver.
Signing in Mobile Manager
- Open the Mobile Manager app.
- Tap the “sign in” button and sign in using the email address and password provided to you. Please contact your instructor or the GIS Specialist if you need help with the sign-in email address or password. You need to sign in to access to positioning service.

Correction Source and Reference Frames
This instruction is written for using the Trimble correction services. If you want to use a local service, e.g. the correction service from MnCORS, please contact the GIS Specialist for the setup and additional instructions.
- Tap the “GNSS configuring” menu.

- Select the appropriate correction source, horizontal reference and vertical referenc. For more information, go to the Trimble Help page.
- If the selection for “GNSS correction source” is “Custom local”, change it to “Auto” (Trimble Correction Hub).
- If you are using ArcGIS Field Maps to collect data, change the reference for GNSS output to the current WGS 1984 frame, or the one used by your ArcGIS Online web map. Contact GIS Specialist if you need help.
- If you will collect height data, select an appropriate geoid. The Mobile Manager may need to download the selected geoid if it has not been downloaded.

Buildings block GNSS signals. You can connect to the DA2 receiver using the Mobile Manager app while indoors, but no GNSS positions will be returned.
Connecting to the DA2 Receiver
- Make sure your device is still paired the DA2 receiver and you are signed in the Mobile Manager app.
- In the Mobile Manager app, Tap the “Position source” menu.

- Tap “Select position source”.

- Tap “List connected devices”.

- Select the DA2 receiver paired with your device.
- After selecting the DA2 receiver as source of positions, you can connect to and disconnect the DA2 receiver using the “Connect to position source” toggle in the “Home” screen.

The Catalyst positioning service is enabled after Mobile Manager connects to the DA2 receiver (receiver is turned on). You will notice in the “HOME” screen the change in position correction types, for example, from autonomous (uncorrected positions) to RTX (Trimble’s Real Time eXtended correction service). You may also see SBAS which stands for Satellite Based Augmentation System. In general, precision of autonomous positions < precision of SBAS corrected positions < precision of RTX corrected precision.

Status Screen
The “Status” screen lists important settings for you position collection work in a single screen.
- If “Position status” is automatous (no corrections applied) or SBAS (using corrections from an Satellite Based Augmentation System), you are not using Trimble’s positioning service and the position precision would be lower.
- Confirm that “GNSS” output is set to what works with your position collection app, e.g. the ArcGIS Field Maps.

Skyplot Screen
The “Skyplot” screen provides a graphical view of the positions of the GNSS satellites the receiver is tracking and using. The colors represent the different GNSS and correction sources supported by the receiver.
